The comedian, Bobby Lee was born on September 17, 1971, in San Diego, California. He was originally named Robert Lee Jr, the son of Robert Lee and Jeanie. His parents were Korean immigrants who owned clothing stores in Escondido and Encinitas. Lee grew up in Poway, California, and has a younger brother named Steve who is also a comedian and a musician. Steve has hosted podcasts titled “Steebee Weebee” and “Scissor Bros” and also made guest appearances alongside his brother, Bobby Lee on “MADtv.”

Bobby graduated high school from Painted Rock Elementary School and Twin Peaks Middle School. And while attending Poway High School, he was on the breakdancing team. For further studies, Lee enrolled at Palomar College but he dropped out before receiving the degree.

At the young age of 18 years, Lee moved out of his parent’s house and started working in several restaurants and coffee shops in San Diego, while still pursuing his college. However, after seeing Lee on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, his father called to apologize for not supporting his son’s passion. His father also asked how much it cost to be on the show.

Bobby Lee was the first and the only Asian cast member of MADtv when he joined in 2001. In 2015, Lee in partnership with Khalyla Kuhn launched the video podcast titled “TigerBelly.”
