Jason Roy to Strengthen Kolkata Batting Team in IPL 2023

The Kolkata Knight Riders have signed England fly-half Jason Roy for the ongoing Indian Premier League to bolster an attacking line weakened by the absence of star batsman Shreyas Iyer and versatile batsman Shakib Al Hasan.

Kolkata captain Iyer has been ruled out of the entire IPL due to a lower back injury which will require surgery and prevent him from taking part in the World Test Championship final against Australia in June.

Versatile player Shakib, who is currently leading Bangladesh in a one-off test against Ireland at Mirpur, has said he will not play in the league due to national team commitments and personal matters.

Kolkata paid $340,000 to sign Roy, the IPL said in a statement.

Roy has been in sensational form lately. Playing for the Quetta Gladiators, Roy hit an unbeaten 145 on 63 in a Pakistani Super League game against Peshawar Zalmi last month.

Separately, IPL champions Gujarat Titans have signed Sri Lanka’s white ball captain Dasun Shanaka to replace New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, who has returned to the country following a knee injury that has ended his campaign.

During the opening weekend of the IPL, JioCinema, the streaming service owned by Mukesh Ambani, pulled in more than 1.47 billion videos.

Last year, Asia’s richest man secured the digital rights to the IPL for $2.7 billion, and the tournament was broadcast across the country for free.

In a statement on Monday, JioCinema said that the opening weekend for the annual cricket event was the largest ever. As well as the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022. The JioCinema app, which broadcasts this year’s matches, has recorded more than 50 million downloads.
