Amazon Pharmacy Launches Unlimited Generic Drug Prescription Service for $5/Month

Amazon has released a new subscription prescription drug service for Prime members called RxPass, which will deliver generic drugs to customers’ homes for a fixed monthly fee of $5. It is reported by Fierce Pharma.

Prime members can use the new service to order frequently prescribed generic drugs that treat more than 80 common conditions, including high blood pressure and acid reflux. The service includes free shipping.

RxPass, which has been available since Tuesday in most U.S. states, includes more than 50 generic drugs, according to John Love, vice president of Amazon Pharmacy. The goal, he said, is to provide access to commonly prescribed generic drugs.

“We think it will be very valuable for Americans with chronic disease or those who can take two or three medications. With this particular offer, any eligible drugs will be sold for one low flat fee of $5 and delivered to their door,” said John Love.

Amazon shook up the retail pharmacy market when it acquired PillPack in 2018 and then again by rolling out Amazon Pharmacy in 2020. The e-commerce giant is rapidly expanding its presence in the healthcare industry, most notably thanks to its recent deal to buy One Medical for $3.9 billion.

In August, Amazon launched the Amazon Clinic, a new virtual medical clinic that aims to treat common ailments such as allergies, hair loss, and skin conditions.
