The Beauty industry Technological Advancements

Beauty industry

3D printing, Artificial intelligence (AI), and augmented reality (AR) are just a handful of the game-changing technologies that have emerged in recent years.
Various technologies, from custom perfume box to smart hairbrushes, have emerged over the past few years. We’ll talk about how new technologies are being implemented into the realm of beauty and how they’re propelling the beauty and cosmetics business to new highs in this post.

1. ModiFace Skin AI

ModiFace Skin AI

On September 12, 2016, ModiFace Skin AI was introduced in the beauty market. Dermatologists created this unique gadget to monitor the specific state of skin and also inspect any possible skin alterations in real-time.

ModiFace, a major developer of augmented reality technologies for the beauty as well as medical industries, launched this app. This technology can identify and also quantify minute changes in the skin, such as discoloration, black spots, rosacea, dryness, and uneven skin, with the help of a group of specialists. This app can show you how your skin changes before and after using any of your beauty products.

ModiFace Skin AI is ideally based on experts’ observations and unique input. This AI technology is accessible for skincare goods in the size of a software application or a web-API which is capable of perfect skin assessment and web-oriented visualizations of the change in the skin’s state after usage. Modiface’s proprietary technology is usually used in various AR apps for some of the biggest names in the beauty business, including Yves Rocher, Allergan, Sephora, and Unilever.

2. Kérastase Hair Coach

The Kérastase Hair Coach is one of the first multi-usage hairbrushes, which was released on January 3, 2017. It was created by Kérastase, a global pioneer in expert hair care, which is also in partnership with L’Oréal’s Innovation Technology Incubator or Withings, a global leader in the integrated health revolution.

This hairbrush also includes L’Oreal’s signal analysis algorithms for assessing your hair quality and monitoring the impact of various hair care routines. This algorithm is supplemented by a mobile app that provides personalized product recommendations for better hair care. Users’ data can be submitted to a specialized app, which then considers meteorological elements, including temperature, wind, and humidity.

3. Estée Lauder’s Nighttime Expert App

Estée Lauder's Nighttime Expert App

With the release of the ‘Nighttime Expert’ app on November 16, 2017, Estée Lauder entered the market. The Evening Expert app is a cooperation between Estée Lauder and Google to provide users with a chat experience, allowing them to customize their nighttime skincare routine. One of the primary beauty brands to collaborate with Google Assistant on the Google Home for Estée Lauder.

Estée Lauder had planned to develop this app even beyond the Nighttime Expert app from early 2018, which was released in December 2017. In order to use the application, the user has to utter these words “Ok Google, may I chat to the Estée Lauder Nighttime Expert?” to their Assistant on Google Home.

This chat experience allows users to get individualized skin care suggestions after analyzing their skin quality through a series of questions, as well as the option to learn about skin care application procedures if desired.

4. Shiseido’s IoT-Based Skincare System “Optune”:

Shiseido, a Japanese cosmetics company, said on December 13, 2017, that it would introduce its ‘Optune’s experts skincare system from Japan in the Spring of 2018. This is a customized program that changes and adapts to each person’s skin care environment.

They have a unique algorithm that will be able to determine the optimal skin conditions and tones for each individual to attain a moisturized state. Optune optimizes the tailored skincare experience by combining digital technology along with cutting-edge skincare techniques.

The Optune system is made up of two parts:

  • The ‘Optune Zero’/’Optune App’ is a face change monitoring application. It gathers all data pertaining to personal information such as mood, menstrual cycle, and also environmental factors such as humidity and temperature. It can also detect real-time changes in patterns of the required skincare. Optune provides the user with access to their data and optimizes it for their adjustments.
  • ‘Optune Shot,’ which Shiseido claims to suit all types of skins perfectly. It is a skincare product that is packed in a cartridge and placed in a unique machine. TimeTune® care is the name of the system, which focuses on daily biological activities. It consists of serums that are tailored to the skin’s condition at different times of the day, as well as morning and night moisturizers. This two-step treatment is the result of a study of over 1,000 serum and moisturizer combinations.

5. Samsung S Skin

Samsung released S Skin around the second week of January 2017. This is one of the prototypes from Samsung’s C lab section that is still in the idea stage.

While combining special types of cameras, conductivity sensors, and photosensors, this skincare product assesses skin problems such as dryness as well as skin tone. S Skin combines skin therapy with recommendations for how to develop your skin by including micro-needle patches that have important skincare items like collagen.

Various skincare items are manufactured and packaged by a nitrogen flushing and can packaging machine. These skincare products tend to work best with the Samsung S Skin.

6. Rimmel’s “Get the Look” 3D makeup simulation app

Apart from AI-based beauty advances, Rimmel, a British cosmetics firm, debuted a 3D simulation software at a press gathering around June 30, 2016, in London. Holition, which is a digital agency, collaborated on the development of this app. Users are able to take a photo of a cosmetics look and try it on themselves by using this “Get the Look” application.

7. Perfect Corp’s YouCam Makeup App

Perfect Corp’s YouCam Makeup had already premiered around 2018 in the Consumer Electronics Show, which was conducted in Las Vegas. This technology combined AI as well as AR technologies.

The software is quite similar to Rimmel’s “Get the Look,” app which allows its users to snap a photo of their makeup look and then use augmented reality to test that look on their respective faces. Furthermore, it will enable its users to experiment with various different tones over their hair by using real-time AR hair coloring. Choosing a new hair color will become a quick, simple, and enjoyable experience.

Final Thoughts

The beauty industry is using technology to help it reach its full potential. Presumably, we are on our way to a society where technology and aesthetics are increasingly intertwined.
