Planning For Your Amazon Trip? Everything You Need to Know About Visiting the Stunning Rainforest

Amazon Trip

The Amazon is the largest rainforest on earth with a vast natural landscape to explore. The jungle is home to thousands of species of plants, birds, insects, and animals. Anyone who is into wildlife exploration will be left awed by just what the Amazonian experience has to offer.

Going on a tour of the Amazon is definitely worth the trip as you’ll get a chance to spot rare species of nature and animals that are native to the jungle seeing as it is one of the most bio-diverse areas in the world.

With that said, here is everything you need to know about the jungle if an Amazon trip is on your bucket list for the year.

1. The Best Time to Take an Amazon Trip

Although the Amazon is open for exploration throughout the year, it is recommended that you take the Amazon trip during the low water season as it makes it easier for exploring on foot. This is usually between July and December.

However, consider planning the trip well in advance and make reservations prior as most people are likely to take the trip around the same time.

2. How to Get to The Amazon

The Amazon covers about 9 countries in Southern America among them, Peru, Colombia and most commonly Brazil. You can enter the rainforest through any of the 9 countries but as you might expect, you cannot possibly cover the entire rainforest during a single Amazon trip.

And while all countries will give you a completely different experience of the rainforest, Peru is perhaps the best among them.

The Peruvian Amazon is easy to access since it’s less than a couple of hours’ drive from Lima. Moreover, there are attractions such as Lake Titicaca, Colca Canyon, and Machu Picchu which make Peru a must-visit for many avid travelers.

3. What You Will See in Peru

The Peruvian Amazon is immensely biodiverse and is home to a plethora of plants and animal species. You will spot different species of sloths, monkeys, snakes, spiders, and squirrels among others.

You will also find species of low-lying plants and leaves and huge trees of plant species that you have never seen before.

4. Where to Stay

Jungle lodges are the most common type of accommodation in the rainforest. Regardless of the section of the rainforest you pick, you will have lots of options ranging from extremely luxurious to very simple yet functional lodges.

Most, if not all of these lodges, have mosquito nets to protect you from mosquito bites that could cause illness as well as fans to cool you from the heat of the jungle.

You can also find accommodation on the river cruise. This is especially useful during the high water season as you can explore a greater area and see different ecosystems.

The program activities change depending on the weather. River cruises and walks are the most common activities and take place at any time of the day and sometimes at night.

You can also plan night walks so you can get an opportunity to spot nocturnal animals in hiding during the day.

Getting Ready for an Amazon Trip

Now that you have everything you need to know about your trip to the Amazon, make sure that you have all your essentials ready to discover the beauty of nature. Aside from clothes, insect repellents, and backpacks, you can come with a torch for night walks, binoculars so that you can get a closer look at the animals, and a camera to take as many photos as you can.
