Adam Driver talks about playing a young Robert De Niro in Michael Mann’s Heat 2 – About Michael Mann’s Heat 2 Movie
Nearly three decades since Warner Bros. released Michael Mann’s iconic crime film Heat, the studio, and the filmmaker are currently negotiating a sequel for the film, Deadline reports. Warner Bros is looking to reunite with Mann for a film sequel to their classic 1995 drama. The writer-director already made a sequel to the No. 1 New York Times bestseller last summer.
In addition to Warner Bros joining Oscar-nominated Mann in the film, Adam Driver is in talks with the filmmaker to play a young version of Neil McCauley in the sequel. Driver and the filmmaker previously worked on the upcoming Ferrari biopic, which Mann directed.
Warner Bros is in the process of financing the progress of Heat 2. Arnon Milchan’s production company, New Regency, co-financed the first film, and if the sequel moves forward, the company will get the opportunity to co-finance the film.
Heat 2 was written by Michael Mann. It tells the story of everything that happens to the main characters of the original film before and after the events of the first feature film.
The book jumps between two time periods. The first season follows Chris Shiherlis, played by Val Kilmer in the first film, as he tries to escape the LAPD. Meanwhile, Al Pacino’s character in the original film, Detective Vincent Hanna, watches a bank heist gone wrong. It is moving forward into new territory in the Tri-Border Zone and Southeast Asia.
Since the release of the novel Heat in August, which became one of the biggest publications of the year, Mann has hinted that he eventually wanted to adapt the book into a theatrical film. However, he was starting production on the Ferrari at the time, so he was attentive to this project.
Although he is still working on post-production on the drama, the potential for Heat 2 to become the director’s next film began earlier this year. The likelihood that he will be working on a film sequel next is high as he has been enthusiastically working on it ever since the release of the original film.
Aside from Adam Driver, there has also been speculation about which talent will return for Heat 2 and which new actors will take on newer versions of the roles made famed in the film.
