Asha Bhosle was born in a small house in Gohar, a Sangli town in Maharashtra. She was born into a musical family, whose father, Master Dinanath Mangeshkar, belonged to a Marathi-speaking Gomantak Maratha society, and was an actor and classical musician on the Marathi musical stage. When Asha was only 9 years old, her father died. After this, her family started living in Kolhapur, Pune and then Mumbai.
