It’s better to just switch appliances off when they’re not in use instead of leaving them on standby. This means switching them off at the end of the day at the plug point. This can also mean turning off computers and office equipment during lunch breaks, for example.
Also, ensure that all staff are aware of which switches turn off the equipment. Reminders like posters and signs are a great way to do so. This is also another place where a rota might be useful.
When it comes to your dishwasher, only use it when it’s full. This uses the water most efficiently; dishwashers are also more efficient for reducing consumption than handwashing. Another way is to only boil a full kettle when everyone wants a cup of coffee instead of using it multiple times.
Turn The Tap Off
A lot of water is wasted when the tap is left to run while we go about our usual routines. It’s definitely less convenient, but turning the tap off can reduce the amount of wasted water. There are a few areas where this can be applied:
When washing the dishes, using a large bowl full of water to wash and rinse your dishes can reduce water usage. When it comes to washing hands, not leaving the tap running as one soap up can reduce water usage.
The task force can make signs reminding people of these measures. Small signs and posters can also be useful here.
