Read on to find out how you can use the two-tone coloring method in your bedrooms to create a custom and interesting look. Here are some tips and basic guidelines that will help you create a custom look with two tones.

Colors are one of the main elements of any design scheme. You can use 2 or more shades of paint together to create a stunning contrast that can add a sense of charm to your room’s decor.

Colour Combination

Many colors can be combined together beautifully. These colors either complement each other or create a stunning contrast. Colors that are close to each other on the color wheel are a great way to create a seamless design. Colors that are opposite to each other on the wheel can clash- but can also be used to create a contrast. Choosing the correct combinations is an easy way to elevate the design of your room. The correct combination will allow you to create beautiful two-tone bedroom walls.

Highlighting

Contrasting shades of paint can be used to create highlights and accents. These accent colors can be used on one of the walls or the ceiling. Darker shades for the ceiling create a stark contrast and also make the room seem cozier and more compact. Painting the ceiling lighter than the walls can create an illusion of a taller ceiling. If you want to create an illusion of a large and spacious room, paint the ceiling and the walls all in light shades. This is an easy way to use two color combinations for bedroom walls also this is applicable for kids-friendly bedroom designs too.

Patterning

You can create an endless number of patterns just with 2 shades or colors. You can use one of the shades as an accent by creating stripes on the first shade, or you can also create borders using one of the shades. Vertical stripes can make your ceiling seem taller while horizontal stripes will create an illusion of your walls being further away from each other.

You don’t have to use multiple stripes as even single stripes can create a great look. You can also choose to paint other patterns such as circles, semi-circles, rectangles, etc. Using patterns you can create a nice two-color combination for walls.

Analogous Colours

In an analogous color system, you must choose a primary color and then paint the whole room in shades of the same color. For instance, if you choose blue, you can use blue, sky blue, navy, turquoise, and other similar shades. For yellow, you may choose tan, orange, chrome, and other similar shades.

Steps to Paint Your Bedroom Walls With Two Colours

This is a simple guide that will help you create a stunning look using 2 tone bedroom colors.

Before You Begin

It is necessary to prepare yourself, your equipment, materials, and tools before you start painting a room.  Prepare the wall carefully and fill in any indentions or holes along the wall using a crack filler. If the wall is rough, sand it down using sandpaper.

Once you have decided which paints or shades to use, you can start the job.

Apply The Top Colour First

Generally, the top portion of the wall should be painted with a lighter shade while the lower half with a darker shade. Choose a height where you want both colors to meet. Ideally, anything around eye level is a suitable height.

Now start with the top half of the wall. If you start with the bottom and then move on to the top, there is a huge chance that you might end up with drips on the freshly painted bottom half, thus ruining it in the process.

While painting the top, go slightly over the edge on the bottom half. Once the first coat of the paint has dried you can either move forward or apply another coat if necessary.

Mark The Dividing Line

Once the coat or coats have dried, using a pencil or chalk, draw a temporary line separating both halves. This line will serve as a guide for putting on the masking tape in a straight line.

The two common methods that can be used to divide a wall in two are as follows:

Using a Level

A level is a gadget that is used to check whether a surface is perfectly aligned or not. You can use a level as a ruler to draw a temporary line along the breadth of the wall. Just be sure to keep the bubble of the level in the center to draw a perfectly straight line.

Levels are generally available in all hardware stores.

Using a String

If you do not have a level and do not want to invest in one, you can also use the older method which uses a string.

Measure the length of the wall and cut a piece of string the same length. Dust the string with some chalk or any other colored powder. Now hold both ends of the string on both ends of the wall. The string should be at the same height and it should run horizontally across the wall.

Tap the string in such a way that it creates a line on the wall.

Apply Masking Tape

Once you have drawn your dividing line, you can put on the masking tape. Any high-quality masking tape will work well. Start from one end of your dividing line and continue to mask to the other end.

Once the tape has been applied carefully, you can move on to paint the bottom half.

It is necessary to go over the taped line so that you don’t miss any spots while painting the wall.

Be sure not to go beyond the tape line otherwise you may end up ruining the top color.

Once the painting job is done, remove the masking tape. Do not wait for the second shade to dry. If you wait till the paint dries, there is a chance that the masking tape might tear away the dried paint.

The line between the two colors should be crisp, if it isn’t so, use an art brush to correct any imperfections.

Dividing Vertically

While the most commonly used method of painting a wall in two tones is horizontal, you can certainly paint it vertically as well. Choose whichever method you want as ultimately it is your room. The method of applying colors is the same as applying paint on horizontally divided walls.

Final Thoughts

Congratulations! You have successfully divided your wall in two. Now you can try various combinations on various walls of your house- allow your creativity to fly freely, you don’t have to divide the wall horizontally, you can also do so vertically and even diagonally!
