Sam's Club Announces The Opening Of 30 New Stores In The Us In The Coming Years

It also announced a process to modernize its distribution network, for which it will launch five new distribution and fulfilment centres of the supply chain.

Walmart announced that it aims to open more than 30 new Sam’s Club branches in the following years in different cities in the United States, as part of its first expansion since 2017. According to the company, the first Sam’s Club location is expected to open next year in Florida.

It also revealed a strategy to update its supply chain, including the opening of five new supply chain fulfilment facilities, the first of which will be in Georgia later this year.

Following significant sales growth and an all-time high in membership at its present clubs, store CEO Kath McLay stated that it wants to reach out to more customers. He stated that the construction of those 30 clubs is anticipated to take place over the following five years and possibly even longer. The upcoming Sam’s Club location opened in Hanover, Pennsylvania in 2017.

The new clubs will be larger than most of the current locations, which are roughly 140,000 square feet, at about 160,000 square feet. Most of the new clubs will feature a sushi island which includes a full of the floral area and dedicated hearing and optical centres.

Sam’s Club has few stores in high-growth suburban areas, according to McLay, who could not provide specific locations due to competition concerns. He also declined to say how much it will cost to build the company’s clubs and e-commerce facilities.

Sam’s Club has renovated the majority of its 600 clubs, making them lighter and more user-friendly.

The brand has expanded its shopping technology into Scan & Go, a mobile app that allows shoppers to scan merchandise and pay without having to wait in line at the checkout.

A constant growth

Over the last two years, Walmart’s Sam’s Club has seen significant revenue and record membership growth. Warehouse clubs, including Costco Wholesale Corp. and BJ’s Wholesale Club, have been a bright spot in the retail industry, but they became even more resonant during the early part of the pandemic as shoppers loaded up on essential items while staying close to home.

With rising gas prices and rising food inflation, shoppers have turned to warehouse clubs for better deals.
