How Workout Affects Your Hormones
What comes to your mind when you think of exercise? You might be conversant with the fact that exercising is beneficial to your energy and mood. Your physical health also gains in the process.
I’m sure you didn’t know that exercise can have some adverse effects on your body. In this case, the main focus is on the chemical level. There are different ways that working out will affect your hormone levels.
Your body functions will be influenced in the process, such as how insulin is regulated, how the body will handle stress, you’ll be at the risk of suffering from breast cancer, and your sex drive.
Exercise will affect your hormones negatively and positively. When exercising, you may assume that intense exercises are the most suitable ones. As a result, we end up exercising longer, harder, and more intensely. It is advisable to exercise moderately while considering that high or low levels of exercise will cause more harm than good.
Since exercise usually affects everything that goes around when it comes to the body hormones. When you work out, you’ll manage to ensure the body has been balanced in all aspects. Some of the ways that working out will affect your hormones include:
Regulate your estrogen levels
Estrogen is one of the main sex hormones in females. The hormone helps regulate the female reproductive system, and it is also responsible for secondary sex characteristics such as the menstrual cycle, breast development, and reproduction.
Although estrogen is important, it should not be in huge amounts. If your estrogen levels are high, some of the risk factors you’ll be exposed to include suffering from breast cancer.
Women above 35 have higher estrogen levels. Fortunately, when you exercise, the estrogen levels will go down, and you won’t be at a high risk of suffering from breast cancer.
Stimulate HGH (Human Growth Hormone) production
When you exercise, the HGH (Human Growth Hormone) production will improve. If you’re looking for natural ways to increase HGH, you can go ahead and start exercising. In this case, you need to engage in high-intensity exercises to manage to improve insulin sensitivity, reduce fat, and build more muscles. There is the need to combine weight resistance with high-intensity exercises to optimize the growth hormone and other hormones such as testosterone.
Prevent insulin resistance
When you work out, your insulin resistance will improve, and your liver functions will be strengthened. The fatty deposits in the liver will be limited, and you may end up suffering from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Your metabolism will be jump-started, and the oxidative process will slow down.
There are different ways through which you can optimize insulin as you work out. For instance, HIIT will ensure insulin sensitivity improves. However, the cortisol levels will rise. The insulin balance will also be affected if you fail to get enough rest. It is advisable for people with high cortisol levels to engage in regular workouts to ensure the liver is functioning optimally.
Increase adiponectin levels
Adiponectin is a hormone that plays a major role in ensuring you’re protected against type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. For women who are above 40, taking part in aerobics helps to increase the levels of adiponectin. The protein hormone is usually produced by the fat cells, and it helps to regulate glucose.
Increase sensitivity to endorphins
Endorphins are one of the most recognized hormones, and they’re significantly affected by exercising. The hormone is secreted by the pituitary gland, which is responsible for blocking pain and ensuring your anxiety levels have been reduced.
By ensuring that your heart rate is up, you can ensure that the endorphin levels are high. If you exercise regularly, your sensitivity to endorphins will improve. With increased endorphin levels, you won’t get fatigued as fast, and you can also run for longer distances.
Regulate cortisol levels
Cortisol will help in controlling your mood and ensuring that you’re motivated. When you exercise, the hormone won’t be overproduced. The adrenal glands are responsible for producing cortisol. If the hormone is overproduced, you’ll experience adrenal fatigue.
When you exercise regularly, the cortisol levels will be regulated. Nonetheless, low-intensity training is more effective in ensuring the hormone levels are regulated. High-intensity workouts will lead to increased cortisol levels during the period that you’ll be exercising.
Increase testosterone production
Testosterone is important since it helps with muscle maintenance and growth. Your overall confidence and metabolism will increase courtesy of testosterone. Although the hormone is common among men, it is also present in women, and it can cause the same issues when the hormone levels are low. It takes at least 20 minutes to exercise, and your testosterone levels will increase significantly if you have a regular workout routine.
