When you’re wearing contact lenses for the first time, it will take you at least 2 weeks to get used to them. The optometrist will also give you a timetable to increase the length of time you wear the lenses. It will begin with several hours every day.

It can take a fortnight to reach the maximum wearing time if you’re wearing gas-permeable contact lenses. But it will be a lot faster if you have soft lenses. You must also follow your lenses’ disinfecting and cleaning routine until you get the regular disposable ones.

Good lens care and hygiene are crucial as they keep the lenses and your eyes in excellent condition. Make sure to follow the care regime, which the optometrists provide, and attend all the regular aftercare visits.

Using Contact Lenses: How to Begin?

Do you want to know How to Start Using Contact Lenses? You can check out the steps which are provided in this section.

  • Wash your hands properly and dry them up
  • Open the case of the contact lens. Use the fingertip to place the first lens in the non-dominant hand
  • Rinse up the lens with the contact lens solution. Don’t ever use normal water
  • Place the lens on top of the middle or index finger of the dominant hand
  • Take a look to ensure the lens is not damaged and the right side is facing up. The lens’s edge should form a bowl and will not flip out. When it’s inside, try to flip it gently. Don’t use the lens if it’s damaged.
  • Face the mirror, open the lower and upper eyelids with the hand that’s not holding the contact lens
  • Look up at the ceiling or the front, and then place the lens into your eye
  • Slowly close your eye and either press the eyelid gently or roll the eye around. Doing so will settle the lens properly in place. Wearing the lens should make you feel comfortable and help you see clearly once you blink several times. If you are uncomfortable, take it out gently, rinse it and then try again.
  • Repeat the same process for the second lens as well.
